July/August 2026 City of Angels Newsletter

Today is a good day to thank someone. The person who checked on you. The one who stayed patient. The one who made a hard week feel lighter. People often carry kindness longer than we know. A few honest words may only take a minute to say, but they can stay in someone's hearts for years!  (Amazing Quotes)

I thank you dearly for your faithfulness this year! It makes me so happy when I see a pile of cards in the mail waiting to give a child a big smile! Thank you, thank you, thank you for your prayers, your financial support, and the love & kindness that you bestow on our children. It really makes a difference. Our kids have been very respectful and enthusiastic about all the events they experienced this summer. Please don't underestimate your influence! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

This summer (in spite of the heat) has been full of activity! On Tuesdays the kids have enjoyed programs at the Grand Theatre. On Wednesdays they have traveled to FUMC for guided activities, snacks, and gym free time. Dr. Leanne Hadley and Stephanie Sorrell have kept them engaged and active. Several of our girls and boys attended Basketball camp at the church. You can see pictures of these on Facebook.

Through Second Street, we were able to provide both breakfast and lunch for children every day. We had several teenagers from FHS who helped with all the feeding logistics!  When there are 35-45 kids expecting to be fed, it can become a bit hectic! HA!

Another fun experience was PLAY & PLAY at the FUMC. One week of workshops in Holy Listening, unusual crafts, storytelling, camp songs, and play practice. It was lively and fun (I was able to come most days!) The week ended with a hot dog dinner and performance of their play for their families. Next year, I'll invite you all.

The summer ended with a fabulous field trip to the Cincinnati Museum and IMAX. Forty children and 10 adults attended. It was a memorable experience for all! Hope to send pictures next month! A huge THANK YOU to South Presbyterian Church for sponsoring this!

Like last year, I'm giving Walmart cards to the parents for school expenses. Most have received backpacks and some supplies from various churches and organizations so we try to help with other needs: special teacher requests, new shoes, other clothes needs.

Reminder that if you haven't sent in your yearly contribution ($100, covers snacks, expenses, & school supplies), now is the time.

Please mail check to
