The City of Angels Update May 2025

C. S. Lewis said, "Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work." In the end, the legacy that matters won't be what you built in this world. It will be who you raised and whether they felt safe, seen, and loved in your presence.

Children are what the Kings Center is all about! And you angels are helping to raise our kids to feel safe, seen, and loved. Thank you so much for your faithfulness as you pray, send cards of encouragement and support our children. So many of you have reached out to help our families who were displaced because of the flood and have sent money or dropped off supplies to help us recover. We are so thankful!

As I showed you with pictures in my last email, our basement was partially submerged and suffered some damage but very efficient government workers, board member Johnny Keene, and neighborhood church people helped to clean it out and sanitize it. We have hired a man from 1st Corinthian Church who is putting up new sheet rock and painting. Hopefully we can get enough donations to restore the bathroom. It will need a new sink and toilet.

We also lost most of the larger games, tables, chairs, and bookcases down there. Someone has already given us a new foosball table so that will help once we get the basement redone. We've also had wonderful donations of legos and games.

Deneen has planned a course in financial literacy for the kids. A KSU student, True Knight, has set up a pretend store and is teaching how to have a budget, decide on purchases within a budget and make change as they buy from their pretend store. I will try to include pictures!

I am thrilled to announce that one of our former students, Larrissa Bush, graduates this week with an Associates Degree from KSU and then graduates from FHS on June 6th. Joining her are Kamareion Carter, Draelin Tillman, D'Kayo Washington, and Daylan Redden graduating from high school. If you were an angel to any of these kids you may want to send them a GRAD Card. I usually go to the Honors Day or the Graduation and can deliver any cards. The KC Board gives them a card and a check for $ 100 as a THANKYOU for completing high school.
